TOR has only ~6000 relay node for millions of daily users while dVPN already has over 1000 exit nodes for 10k+ users. With on-chain incentivization, dVPN will be able to surpass TOR's network participation with the introduction of its relay network in the future. Community participation in node hosting has been extremely strong and will only increase with the real node revenue that will begin flowing in with the upcoming bandwidth upgrade.

The flagship Sentinel dVPN mobile application is returning soon with a completely free version of the application as well as a paid version of the application. The previous free Sentinel Android dVPN on ETH reached over 500k downloads in 2020- early 2021. Approval of the new Solar Labs iOS and Android application is imminent. This new application allows for payments to be made using several Cosmos based tokens which can be converted to dVPN for use to spend on bandwidth. The future application upgrade will allow for direct node payments in different Cosmos based currencies to dVPN nodes which have white-listed these currencies as an acceptable payment. The new Solar Labs application will be fully sourced and the different functions of the application can be configured by community developers.

We've detected an attack coming from Indonesia against SOLAR dVPN infrastructure which is responsible for fiat-to-DVPN convertion. What happened? Today, at 17:04 Tallinn Time, our internal monitoring systems reported an unusual spike — number of the new in-app subscriptions with trial period were doubling each 5 minutes. Our team decided to investigate what is happening and what is the reason for that spike. What we found out? As we found out that 100% of new subscriptions with active trial period are being created from Indonesia, we've ran a search on social media and news, trying to find whether this spike is justified by some certain line of events or some online-article. According to our data, nothing like that happened. Using benefits of blockchain transparency, we took a step further to investigate what is the pattern of the actions for newly created wallets. We found that unknown malicious actor have created an undefined number of Google accounts and subscribed to a 7-day trial period using Google Play In-App purchases mechanism. As our app is built in such a way that we are paying for nodes on behalf of the users while they only pay for subscription, malicious actor took advantage of it. He rolled out his own low quality nodes with a insanely high pricing per GB and started to subscribe to such nodes from newly created wallets, forcing us to deposit DVPN tokens to his nodes. It is clear that malicious actor intention was to force us to transfer as much DVPN tokens as possible to his nodes during the trial period and cancel subscription before the first payment. What measures we've taken? We've temporary disabled free trial period for Android, replacing it with discount instead. During next couple days our anti-fraud mechanism will be deployed on the servers of the fiat-crypto ramp to prevent this from happening in the future. We've also taken down from the app listing malicious servers (they weren't providing VPN service itself, only gathering tokens). Normal users are not affected, app continues to operate normally.

Sentinel's interactive map based dVPN Node explorer is now live at map.sentinel.co Filter the map view between V2Ray and Wireguard nodes and even see a dedicated view of all dVPN nodes which are hosting HNS resolvers. Also search for nodes by country or city and see their protocol type along with other information after clicking on them. Future updates to the interactive dVPN node explorer will include node pricing information as well as accepted currencies for payment by the node. The code for this application will soon be released on GitHub and there will be rewards offered for community contribution to make this tool as resourceful as possible. More utilities to be introduced in the near future include a node leaderboard and a dedicated network statistics page with charts. Anyone can create their own network utilities with Sentinel's open stats API infrastructure.

Announcement: Node Hosts required for White-Label POC - Whitelist Opening Tomorrow What is going on? - The Node Incentive program will be re-opening for community members. Community members will be incentivized to host nodes to provide bandwidth to the users of a White-Label POC (proof of concept) application that will be soon launched. Why a node incentive program now? - As discussed in February, a successful centralized VPN application is considering to launch dVPN applications built on Sentinel and will be undertaking a POC in order to test the network before making further decisions on network transition. This organization currently has a VPN with over 1 million daily active users and over 13 Million total downloads. This POC aims to reach a minimum of over 20k users within the first months in order to stress-test the Sentinel network. What work has been done in the past month on integration? - This experience was the first experience where Sentinel's core networking side contributors have interacted with a real centralized VPN team intending to migrate their architecture onto Sentinel's stack. For the time-being, node hosts will have to manually add their node to an active subscription in order to be eligible for this airdrop. What is the geo-location focus of the nodes? The geo-location focus of the nodes is in the Middle East as well as South East Asia as the intention is for the nodes to have a closer proximity to Iran which is the main focus group of this POC. The desired countries for these nodes include: Singapore, UAE, Thailand, Vietnam, India More information will be released on incentives and other specifics pertaining to this incentive program for powering one of the first applications being launched on Sentinel by a real centralized VPN provider.
